Yosemite National Park Is Open During Government Shut Down

During the federal government shutdown, Yosemite is open and concessions are operating normally. Most roads normally open in winter remain open, conditions permitting. Many National Park Service facilities are closed. If you have an emergency, call 911.

Below is a list of services and facilities that are open or closed. Visitor services may be diminished or areas may be closed due to environmental, public safety, or other unknown factors.

Emergency Services

In case of emergency, dial 911 for emergency services. Response time may be increased. The Yosemite Medical Clinic remains open during normal operating hours and days: Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm, except holidays (which includes December 24 and 25, and January 1).


Roads normally open at this time of year remain open, conditions permitting, including Wawona Road (continuation of Highway 41), El Portal Road (continuation of Highway 140), Big Oak Flat Road (continuation of Highway 120 from the west), and the Badger Pass Road. Roads may close in the event of a natural event such as snow storm, rockfall, fallen trees, etc. Tioga Road, Glacier Point Road (beyond the ski area), and Mariposa Grove Road are closed for the season. Hetch Hetchy Road is also closed.

Wawona Road (Highway 41) Restrictions

Park rangers will screen incoming vehicles at South Entrance from 9 am to 6 pm, allowing only those with a reservation for lodging or camping inside the park to proceed. All others will be asked to enter Yosemite via Highway 140. Local residents and guests staying in Yosemite Valley, Yosemite West, and Wawona will be allowed to enter via South Entrance.

Visitors planning to visit the Yosemite Ski and Snowboard Area will be asked to enter the park via Highway 140.
